Kalanithi Maran was born and brought up in Tamilnadu, India in the year 1965. His father, Murasoli Maran is from the powerful political party and former Union Minister of Commerce. Kalanithi completed his schooling from Don Bosco School in Chennai and graduated from Loyola College, Chennai. During his college days, he was an average student but was very much active in Politics and was Chairperson of Student’s Union in college. For his Post Graduation Degree, he went to Scranton University in Pennsylvania in United States of America.
Kalanithi began his career as a Circulation Clerk in Sumangli Publications. After leaving the publication, Kalanithi then joined Tamil weekly journal, Kunkumam. In the year 1990, Kalanithi started his own Video Magazine, Poomaali. It was an international magazine which gave the required fame and name to Kalanithi. But the magazine gained the controversy of being plagiarised in the year 1992 and it got ceased. Following year, Kalanithi started SUN TV taking a bank loan of $86,000.
